San Francisco for Families
If you’re going to San Francisco…be prepared to have fun there! This culturally diverse waterfront historic town has a wide variety of museums, theaters, events and communities to satisfy the curiosities of any visitor. The area is renowned for its mild climates, steep hills, trolley cars and liberal spirit.
The area was first settled in 1776, when the Spanish founded a fort at Golden Gate and a mission. In 1848, the California Gold Rush thrust the city into a period of rapid expansion. Earthquake and fire nearly wiped the city off of the map in 1906 but reconstruction projects quickly had it rebuilt. In the 1960s, the Haight-Ashbury district became a haven for the counterculture hippie movement.
