Here is an interesting bit of history for you. Did you know that the Fort Worth Zoo is the oldest zoo in Texas? It is. It was founded in 1909 with just a handful of animals and a whole lot of heart.

Now, that time line might not mean very much to you, but here is what it means to me. I have grown up with this zoo. The first time that I visited, I was only a few years old. In fact I can watch myself grow up in pictures taken at the Fort Worth Zoo.

And I’m not the only one who grew up! The zoo has done a bit of growing its self. It seems like every year they have something new and exciting to offer. I think that my favorite exhibit is the one they opened about three years ago, Parrot Paradise. The birds are so vibrant and full of life. Just seeing all of those beautiful colors is enough to brighten my day.

I love that the zoo is always trying to improve the lives of their animals. Like, they are one of just four zoos in the entire country that has an Asian Elephant breeding program. It is the touches like this that show you that this is so much more than just a zoo. They really care about their animals, and they want to do every thing that they can for them and for their futures.

Just like any zoo, you can eat at one of the restaurants or snack stands throughout the park. The food is a little spendy, but it’s not bad. Food is optional, but one thing that is an absolute must is a cool drink, preferably water. When you are walking through the zoo you have to remember that you are outside and fighting the heat. And folks, this is Texas and it gets HOT! Keeping a cold drink with you is an easy way to improve your entire day!
