During our Toronto family vacation, my kids yearned to visit to a theme park. After asking around, we settled on Ontario Place —a fun-filled adventure laced with learning tools. Home of the world’s first IMAX Theater, the Cinesphere at Ontario Place presents edge-of-your-seat documentaries and feature films on a massive 80-feet-wide screen. Entertaining and educational, the film made my kids and I feel like part of an exciting adventure as we settled into our seats and watched the real-life drama unfold before our eyes.
Upon conclusion, we wandered around the amusement park, searching for a quest apart from the usual “ride” experience. I suggested the “Mega Maze” attraction. My kids thought it would be a piece of cake, but little did they know—this maze was far from ordinary. The enigmatic labyrinth tests participants with sense overloads and tricky obstacles. We raced the clock as we challenged ourselves to find the end. We finally reached it…11 minutes later. What a thrill!
I charmed my kids into mini putt and a leisurely paddle boat ride, but they convinced me to try something a little more extreme. On “Wilderness Adventure,” we began on a tame boat ride through a mock Canadian Forest. At the end, we all screamed with glee as we plummeted down a steep flume.
Already sopping wet, I took the opportunity to soak up some rays while the kiddies ran around the aptly named “Soak City.” There, they braved such water-generated sensations as the “Hydrofuge,” and dared each other down some intense water slides. Laughing the whole time, I knew they were having a blast. They even persuaded me to ride on the lazy “River Raft,” which was tremendously amusing for my whole family.
Outside the park, we inquired about unique dinner ideas. One passerby suggested Medieval Times, which was within walking distance of the amusement park. My kids and I watched knights on horseback engage in a friendly jousting competition. They loved the spectacle, and especially enjoyed eating their whole meal with their hands! The dinner show was the perfect conclusion to an extraordinary day.
